An influencer specialising in beauty and style for women over 40, explained how opting for the appropriate hairstyle has the potential to shave off a decade from your perceived age, effectively rejuvenating your look.
Erin from YouTube Channel Busbee Style said in one of her videos: “Many of you may think that over 40, you can’t wear a ponytail anymore.
“But I beg to differ. I think it looks fabulous and I think you should wear a ponytail.
“I don’t know how I’m going to feel about it in my 60s and 70s – we’ll have to check back – but for now I’m definitely still wearing a ponytail.”

The ponytail stands out as a hairstyle for its quick, easy application and inherent chicness, which makes it suitable for both casual and more formal occasions.
In her demonstration, the content creator showcased her preferred ponytail technique: brushing back all of her hair without a parting and securing it with a hair tie.
While she emphasised that the position of the ponytail is down to personal choice, she personally favours a high placement.
To add volume or achieve a “poof” effect, she gently tousled the top of her hair with her fingers.
For a refined finishing touch, she took a small section of hair from the ponytail, wrapped it around the hair tie, and tucked it neatly underneath.
This method cleverly conceals the hair tie, elevating the overall look to a sophisticated yet effortlessly stylish level.
Schellea Fowler, known for her YouTube channel Fabulous50s, shares a similar belief with Erin regarding the age-defying qualities of the ponytail.
Like Erin, this influencer over 50 advocates for the high ponytail as the preferred style, explaining: “The reason high ponytails look so great on older women is that it lifts.
“The focus is on the top of our head and that’s lifting everything for our beautiful faces that are going south.”
